2021 Rising Star and one of Washington's next generation of STEM leaders
West Valley High School
Sara was selected as the South Central Region 2021 Rising Star not only for her exemplary work in school, but also for her STEM-focused community service. She helped organize two community STEM fairs and introduced students, families, and even the School Board to STEM projects and tools. Technology will remain a focus for Sara as she continues her education because so much of modern life revolves around it. She hopes to continue her work helping others feel less intimidated by STEM.

“Sara is not only a 4.0 GPA student at West Valley High School, but has contributed to the West Valley community in many ways. Sara was involved in organizing two STEM Fairs to showcase school-wide projects, educate and inspire students and families at the District level…Also, she taught classes on the use of Skyward and the use of Google Classroom to parents and families that attended the STEM Fairs. She was the Vice President of the West Valley IGNITE chapter, and during her time, she visited several tech corporations such as Microsoft and Amazon to participate in coding workshops and brainstorming sessions and panels. She has also presented at School Board meetings where she demonstrated use of commonly used school applications for learning from a student perspective. During the COVID shutdown, Sara was invited by IGNITE Worldwide to participate in their Annual Spring Gala by recording a speech about her passion in STEM fields and her thoughts in the gender gap that exists in the world of STEM today.”
The Washington STEM Rising Star Awards encourage girls to embrace STEM education and to explore the use of STEM in ways that will support their education, career, and personal development and the development and needs of others.
