Launch of the Notable Women in STEM Project!
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Notable Women in STEM project! This visual database of STEM professionals showcases the wide variety of STEM careers and pathways in Washington. The women featured in these profiles represent a diverse range of talent, creativity, and possibility in STEM. We believe that through the stories of the exceptional women highlighted here, all students can see a future in STEM.
Equity in STEM education and careers is at the heart of what we do, and representation in STEM matters. The research is clear– in order for students to feel like they can pursue any given career, they first have to see themselves in that career. This project is meant to do just that. From structural engineers and data scientists to volcanologists and medical professionals, a wide swath of possibilities is represented within these featured profiles. This project is for anyone who is curious about what’s possible in STEM, but it’s especially for students across our state. Students will be able to connect the things they learn about STEM careers and subjects to real-world, local examples of STEM professionals.
We know that even beyond this list there are a myriad of opportunities in Washington for students who choose to pursue STEM. As we roll-out this project we have our eyes on how to expand this list in the future to cover even more STEM professions and women who are doing amazing work across Washington. Stay tuned for more information on how we plan to grow this project!
